Dear Grandma—

How are you? I hope that you had a wonderful birthday full of presents and friends. My birthday was fun too. Thank you very much for the card and the money; I appreciate them both.

I begin teaching tomorrow. I have managed to convince my department that I am intelligent and capable of instructing freshmen on how to write. Imagine that! I have two sections of Freshmen Composition, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9 and 10 a.m. In addition to teaching, I also have a full schedule of graduate classes: The Epic, James Joyce, and a compulsory teaching practicum. This should be a busy semester.

Did you hear that Timmy will be graduating on Friday? I’m sure that you heard about his job in Albany, Georgia. I’m very proud of my brother.

Mom has started back to school; this is a good thing considering that she doesn’t like Subway much. She and I will be going to see Tim graduate. We won’t get in to Atlanta until late Thursday evening. Bummer.

Well, Grandma, take care of yourself. Thanks again for the birthday sentiment.
