Feeling a Bit Better

Today, I’m feeling a bit better, though I still can’t really smell anything. Max had a rough night. His fever broke yesterday, but he was crying all night. Autumn thinks he might have a lingering issue, so she took him to aftercare to see. I don’t think either of them got much sleep last night. Autumn just verified: Max is COVID positive and he has an ear infection. Poor dude.

This morning, I was feeling a bit inspired, so with the help of ChatGTP, I wrote an EduCorp mission statement or manifesto. For this who have read my journal regularly, you’ll know that EduCorp is my name for the increasing hold that corporate culture (re: capitalism and the billionaire class) has on everything in our society, including higher education. I guess the most nauseating example would be what Ron DeSantis has done to New College. EduCorp is interested in maintaining the ideology of capitalism by emphasizing job training and demonizing the liberal arts. Its primary motivation is to maintain and expand a capitalist West, where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Where culture wars keep the workers fighting with each other while the corporate world enriches itself and destroys both us (our only source of capital: our bodies) and the planet. Where faculty are the enemies and well-paid administrators multiply like wasps. These middle managers build and maintain a complex bureaucracy of bullshit meant to justify their inflated salaries while keeping the daily operation opaque and inaccessible, like a Kafkaesque nightmare. In EduCorp, students are customers and are anything but educated. Ironically EduCorp trains them to be lumpen, those kept ignorant of and disinterested in the only struggle that matters: class struggle.
