Freedom Letter
Pinch me. Am I dreaming? I received a letter today dated January 1, 2023 from my student loan servicer Mohela. When I took the letter out of the mailbox, I thought “uh oh, what now?” I figured it was another letter explaining how the Republicans are still suing the Biden Administration and that while you were initially approved, it may never happen. It was a small envelope.
However, the first paragraph reads:
“ | Congratulations! On Oct. 6, 2021, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) announced a limited-time change to the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program rules that may allow you to get credit for past periods of repayment that otherwise would not qualify for PLF. We completed our review of your repayment and qualifying employment history under the PLF Program rules including the limited PLF waiver, and awarded PSLF credit based on these requirements. We determined you have successfully met the requirements of the PLF Program and your loans listed below have been forgiven. Thank you for your public service! | ” |
Arguably, some of the most beautiful words I have ever read. So, ostensibly, that’s it. I am student loan-free.
What a great beginning to 2023!
