Well, I found out this afternoon that I’m not teaching NMAC 5108 this spring. I’m a bit disappointed, since I had planned on having my students work on Lipton’s Journal. I have really enjoyed my time with graduate students, and I think I had three excellent classes. The second worked on An American Dream Expanded. This year they completed their own Wikipedia articles, and we collaborated on The Faith of Graffiti and even took it all the way to Good Article status. Yeah, I’m pretty proud of those. However, university politics being what they are, I’m off to other things, likely not to return if I’m reading the situation correctly.
Instead, I’ll be teaching ENGL 3700 Studies in the Novel. Now this has possibilities, and I would certainly never say no to an upper-level literature course. The only drawback is that I’m going to have a heck of a time picking my reading list. So much to read, so little time.
I’ll likely limit myself to 20th-century, maybe even contemporary. Maybe the postmodern novel. How about post-9/11 novels? That would be trickier. I have some considering to do.
